Our work in Nepal began several years ago through a connection with an energetic young couple, Indra and Manju.
Since then, our partnership with them has grown into an effective and meaningful collaboration supporting their initiatives in Kathmandu and West Nepal.
In central Kathmandu, they lead a vibrant church community that reaches into the surrounding neighbourhood, engaging people of all ages and supporting families in practical ways.
In West Nepal, they have established an agricultural project focused on goat breeding, improving the quality of livestock and strengthening local livelihoods.
Sturr is pleased to partner with them in this important and impactful work.
Sustainable Goat Farming Empowering Local Families in India and Nepal
A small goat farming initiative is helping strengthen livelihoods and promote sustainable agriculture in Lamki, Chauri Kailali (Nepal) and Diyan Village, Khatima, Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand (India). Often called the “poor man’s cow,” goats require less land, feed, and investment while providing reliable income through meat production and breeding. This makes goat farming an ideal and practical solution for rural families seeking financial stability.
The project is the brainchild of Indra and Manju who currently oversee farmers who are caring for 12 female goats, 2 male goats, and 10 young kids, creating a growing herd that supports both breeding and meat supply for the local community. With access to road transportation, electricity, and clean water, the farms are well-positioned to operate efficiently and sustainably.
Beyond income generation, the goal of this initiative is empowerment. By demonstrating sustainable livestock practices, the project aims to equip local farmers with the knowledge and confidence needed to start their own small goat farms. As families learn to manage breeding, feeding, and herd health, they gain the tools to become economically independent and self-sustaining.
The project also contributes to the long-term sustainability of church ministry in India and Nepal by creating community-based income opportunities. As the herd grows, more families will be trained and supported to develop their own livestock programs.
