In JORDAN across the towns of the north east, thousands of migrant workers from South Asia—primarily women from Nepal, Pakistan, India, and Sri Lanka—are employed in garment factories. Recruited through agencies with promises of fair wages and good working conditions, many arrive hopeful for a better future. Instead, they often find themselves working long hours for minimum wages, vulnerable to exploitation and far from home.
In May 2023, Mark received an unexpected invitation to visit Jordan through a contact in Sri Lanka. What he discovered there was both challenging and deeply encouraging. In one of these factory towns, a small but vibrant church has begun to grow. Many Sri Lankan workers, despite the hardships they face, are coming to faith in Christ and seeking spiritual support and discipleship.
This emerging community of believers has created a significant opening for ministry. There is a growing need for teaching, pastoral care, and encouragement as these workers navigate both spiritual growth and difficult working environments.
STURR continues to be involved in this developing opportunity, exploring ways to support the church, strengthen discipleship, and bring hope to those who often feel forgotten.
